Congratulations to Year 11 Set 1 in mathematics, who sat their GCSE exam early, in November. The results are now out....
..and they all achieved at least an A grade and 15 students achieved A* with several others missing out by only a handful of marks. Particular mention is due to Luke Tyler, who scored 100% on paper 1, and David Vick who scored 100% on paper 2 and the top mark overall, 197 out of 200. Well done to every one of them.
These students now have the opportunity to stretch their understanding on the new Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics (a.k.a. iGCSE). This qualification is designed to prepare students for the demands of A’ level maths without covering too much of the new content they will encounter. With a GCSE already under their belts we can take this opportunity to relax a bit and enjoy investigating unfamiliar areas of mathematics, playing with algebra and doodling spirals. The maths department will be looking to see if the success of this experiment with early entry can be repeated in the future.
